What is the Clarion Circle?

Composed of individuals who donate $50 or more annually to the Clarion Foundation, the Clarion Circle offers various benefits, including online chats with authors, contract advice, story and novel critiques, a members-only message board, a mentor program, and more. The Clarion Circle is administered by the Clarion Foundation. Most benefits are provided electronically via the Clarion Circle web site.

Anyone who donates $50 or more to the Clarion Foundation is eligible to receive one year of access to the Clarion Circle.

What are the benefits?

In addition to the satisfaction you'll get from knowing that your donation directly supports The Clarion Science Fiction & Fantasy Writers' Workshop, access to the Clarion Circle offers these exclusive benefits:

• Online Chats
  You'll have the privilege of interacting live in online chats with some of your favorite authors and editors. Past chats have featured science fiction & fantasy personalities such as Kim Stanley Robinson, Karen Joy Fowler, Kate Wilhelm, and James Patrick Kelly. If you miss a chat, never fear. Visit the Circle's archive of chat transcripts.


• Story & Novel Critiques
  For an additional fee, arrange to have your story critiqued by a Clarion Workshop instructor and Clarion Circle participating members. Or, for a more substantial fee, have your novel critiqued by seasoned professional writers and/or Clarion Workshop instructors. Benefit even without active participation by studying the Circle's archive of past critiques.


• Contract Advice
  Do you have questions about some of the clauses in a book or story contract you're about to sign? Get advice from experienced professional writers.


• Members-only Message Board
  Hobnob with fellow Clarion Circle members, professional writers, editors, and Clarion Workshop alumni and instructors about everything from market news to the writing life to what it's like to attend the Clarion Workshop. The message board is a great resource for anyone who cares about professional writing, and is highly recommended for those who are trying to decide whether to attend the Clarion Workshop, and grads who are still coming down from it.


• Mentor Program
  Whether you're a seasoned professional writer who loves to teach, or a beginner who wants to know a little or a lot about the craft and business of writing, the Clarion Circle Mentor Program is for you. Professional writers are matched with aspirants on a one-to-one basis.


• Clarion Circle Subscriber Directory
  Access to contact information for Clarion Circle subscribers arranged both alphabetically and geographically. An invaluable tool for contacting other Clarion supporters or arranging local workshops and other events.
